Getting Started
What is SlashApply?
SlashApply is a Chrome extension that helps you fill repetitive job application fields instantly. Create
reusable templates, snippets, and variables, then use slash commands (//command) to insert them on
any website.
Installation
- Install SlashApply from the Chrome Web Store
- Click the SlashApply icon in your toolbar to set up your first profile
- Add your resume, create templates, and define variables
- On any job application, type
//to see available templates
Common Tasks
Creating Templates
Templates are reusable text snippets with variables. Create them in the SlashApply sidebar:
- Click the SlashApply helper pill at the bottom of the page, then select "Templates"
- Click "New" and add a trigger command (e.g.,
intro) - Add your template text with variables like
{{firstName}} - Click "Save"
Using Variables
Variables store frequently-used information. Define them once, then use them in templates:
- Go to the Variables tab in the sidebar
- Add key-value pairs like
firstName: John - Use them in templates as
{{firstName}} - When inserting, you'll see a form to confirm or edit values
Uploading a Resume
Store your resume PDF or DOCX for quick access on any job site:
- Open the SlashApply sidebar and click the "Resumes" tab
- Click "Upload" to add a PDF or DOCX file
- Drag the resume onto upload fields, or click "Click to fill" to assign it to nearby inputs
- Your resume is stored locally and never sent to third parties
Managing Profiles
Create separate profiles for different job search contexts:
- Click "Profiles" in the sidebar
- Each profile has its own templates, variables, and resumes
- Switch between profiles instantly without losing data
Frequently Asked Questions
Your data is stored locally on your computer using Chrome's extension storage and IndexedDB. Your resume, templates, and variables are never sent to our servers or any third party.
Currently, data is local to each device. If you reinstall Chrome or the extension, your data will be lost. We recommend exporting your data regularly from the Settings tab for backup.
Some job sites use advanced file upload handlers that override standard browser behavior. Try using "Click to fill" mode instead, or download your resume and upload it manually. If a specific site isn't working, please report it.
Open SlashApply settings (click the pill, then Settings tab), and click "Export Data". This creates a JSON file with all your profiles, templates, and variables for backup or migration.
By default, extensions don't run in private browsing mode. To enable SlashApply: go to
chrome://extensions, find SlashApply, and toggle "Allow in incognito".
Reload the page or click the SlashApply helper pill to reactivate it. If that doesn't work, try disabling and re-enabling the extension, or reinstalling it.
Uninstalling the extension will remove all local data. Alternatively, open SlashApply settings and click "Reset to sample data" to clear your profiles, templates, and variables.
Troubleshooting
Slash palette not showing
- Check that the SlashApply helper pill is visible at the bottom-right of the page
- Make sure you're typing
//(two forward slashes) followed by a command or space - Reload the page and try again
- Some sites may have Content Security Policies that block the extension—try a different site to verify it works elsewhere
Resume not autofilling
- Use "Click to fill" mode: open the sidebar, click the resume, then click "Click to fill" and select the upload field
- Try dragging the resume directly onto the upload zone
- Some advanced upload handlers may not support automatic assignment; download and upload manually in those cases
Templates not saving
- Ensure you've filled in the trigger field (e.g.,
intro) - Check that you have the correct profile selected
- Try closing and reopening the sidebar to refresh
Extension not working after update
- Go to
chrome://extensionsand reload SlashApply - Close all job application tabs and refresh
- If that doesn't help, disable and re-enable the extension
